Inquiring Minds Want to Know

The FCC grants licenses to the publicly owned airwaves to broadcasters with the understanding they will serve the public interest.

Broadcasters, responsible to their corporate owners, exist to make a profit, not serve the pubic interest.

Both parties cite the media's failure to adequately inform the electorate - which party can best fix this broken system? Or does it not need fixing at all?

    This is unfortunately an illness without remedy. As a journalist myself, I can say for certain that there will never be an unbiased uniformity to all news sources as long as even independent outlets are driven by ad revenues. And if the task of, “fixing this broken system,” was left up to a single party – as though one could fix or regulate mass media more efficiently than the other – the slant would inevitably leave the electorate more misinformed then before any would-be repairs were made.
